Description

Hello folks.

DimOnion is my personal collection of Dominion fan/parody cards. Often humorous as the name suggests, but sometimes I will introduce straight-laced cards or sets. I do not own rights to any of the art or characters used or Dominion, but I would appreciate help in retaining credit for designing gameplay of these fan cards.

DimOnion: Modern Times is now in complete Alpha. Not tested yet, but I'm looking forward to it.

The theme of this set is Modern Times, complete with debt, corruption, and politics.

The central mechanic is Debt, a "cantrip" card (+1 card, +1 action) that essentially Cutpurses its owner twice before they can get rid of it - and Curses you if you try to trash it! Debt is used either as junk in an attack, or as a drawback for using cards which would otherwise be too powerful for their cost. Think predatory loans, credit cards, insurance premium increases, mortgages, stock market shenanigans. There are a lot of ways to gain Debt and I hope that it's balanced in the end. Considering how overwhelmingly prevalent Debt is, I will start testing using *twice* as many Debts per game as I do Curses - that is, 20 for 2-player, 40 for 3-player, 60 for 4-player, etc.

Modern Times Shelters: Like in Dark Ages, Modern Times has three starting cards which replace your starting Estates. They are Payday Loan, iPhone, and Property Insurance. Since Payday Loan can gain you a Debt, every Modern Times game has a Debt pile. If you play Dark Ages with Modern Times, I suggest using Modern Times shelters and *not* Dark Ages shelters.

Tweets and Spammers: A Tweet is here taken to be synonymous with any useless chunk of info, be it a Tweet in the usual sense, spam, junk mail, or people talking too loud on the bus. Any time a card with the Spammer type is in the game, the Tweet pile is in the supply as an extra pile. The Tweet pile is the same size as the Curse pile.

Internet, Amazon, Google, Facebook/Twitter: First of all, Facebook/Twitter is a single shuffled supply pile of 5 Facebook cards and 5 Twitter cards with only the top card visible, much like the Knights of Dark Ages. This pile can be played without any of the others, and so can Google and Amazon. However, Internet requires *all three* of the other piles in order to be played. Internet and Facebook/Twitter are both pretty lousy Actions, but Internet gets you an Amazon *and* a Google. Therefore, you *probably* shouldn't use Facebook/Twitter at all without Internet, since that's the most likely way you'd pick them up anyway. Whether you play with three additional Kingdom piles in Internet games or if you count all four of them as distinct piles as usual is up to you.

As a whole, I am a bit concerned that the set may not have enough drawers and villages. It seems to concentrate heavily on debt-juggling rather than big chains. It may play better with cards from other sets added in. To make it more self-contained, I may attempt to come up with whatever role seems most absent in retrospect.

I updated House. Needs testing. Has some hope of being a useful card, but it might still suck.
